Unique photo exhibition on Tihar jail inmates
New Delhi
A rare photo exhibition by eminent photo-journalist, Renuka Puri in the capital titled 'In the Shadows of Walls' exhibits a series of photographs on life inside Delhi's Tihar jail with extraordinary frames of life crying out for attention. The photographs, result of her sheer hardwork of four years is an eye opener, as it brings to book, the real life within the rampart of the jail.
Renuka's special focus was on the Women's Cell of Tihar. "I had to be very strong emotionally, as I was excavating the women's world there. Also, you won't find the scope to shoot in Tihar always, like one cannot shoot during the lunch hour," Renuka said. Asked, why she chose Tihar as her subject, Puri replied, "Why not Tihar? There is also life, and they are also human beings." Most of the frames that Renuka captured presented the jail's stark and grim tales in a remarkable maner. The exhibition is a peep into the lives of the women in Tihar jail and their children. The occasion also marked the presence of children from Tihar jail.
The exhibition presented by Brandsmith & Steel Authority India Limited in collaboration with A 2 Z Group and Ashoka Hotel was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit. Talking about the exhibition Dixit said, "It is one of its kind. The photographs show that many good things are also there, as the beauty culture." Prominent attendees were Cabinet Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Brandsmith CEO Rahul Mitra, A2Z Group CEO Sunil Gupta, Indo-French Chambers of Commerce Regional Director Piya Bajwa, DG of Tihar jail and B K Gupta. The exhibition that started on 18th September would be on display till 20th September.

Isle of Bali and Vishnu influence works of Gujarat artist
New Delhi
Gujarat-based veteran artist Amit Ambalal draws his colors and inspiration from the 'leela' (miracles) of Lord Vishnu, the ruler of the Indian religious pantheon who is credited with at least 1,000 avatars.
Amabalal's latest muse is the mystical island of Bali; the land closely associated with ancient Hinduism and the growth of Vaishnav culture.
The artist's new cache of works, "Inspired By Bali", is a visual comparison of the legends of Ramayana and the Mahabharata brought to life in the pictorial images that one sees in the eastern countries influenced by ancient Indian culture and in the caves of Ajanta and Ellora in India.
The paintings will be on display in the capital during July 22-Aug 12 at Gallery Espace.
