To the honorable Consul General,
Honored guests,
Dr. Dipankar Roy and Mrs. Kshama Roy,
and most importantly to the wonderful girls from the Andaman islands:
Congratulations on achieving yet another milestone in your journey of Ananda Yatra.
I am sorry that I am not able to be with you today. Though I cannot enjoy the paintings first-hand, I am quite sure that Dr. Roy has once again created some inspiring works that make us take a step back and reflect on the world we live in today.
It is a world filled with challenges. War and natural disasters. Poverty and hunger. None of us can – not even the unstoppable Dr. Roy – can solve all these problems on our own. But we can all contribute in our own way.
That is what Dr. Roy has done in taking these orphans from the Andaman islands under his wing. He has given them hope in a world filled with despair. When these girls sing, “We shall overcome,” it is more than empty words. Thanks in large part to Dr. Roy, it is a real possibility.
Congratulations, once again.
